From the State Library

The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce the launch of the Ohio Collection Analysis Initiative. Ohio library staff now have exclusive access to an original, self-paced, collection analysis initiative for considering collections that empower children and young adult readers by respecting and appreciating what makes them different and the same. This initiative provides the tools, time, and support to consider your library’s print collections for children and young adults.

“Librarians and library staff are continually working to ensure their collections are reflective of and meaningful to their communities,” expressed State Librarian Wendy Knapp. “The State Library of Ohio is proud to be the first state library to provide this data-driven collection analysis tool for libraries that serve children and young adults.”

Register here for access to the Ohio Collection Analysis Initiative.

Notable highlights from this impactful initiative:
  • Free for staff working in all types of Ohio libraries! It is available at no cost to you.
  • There are no time constraints for completing this program. Set your own goals and progress at your own pace.
  • Personalized support. You have access to a dedicated, full-time specialist for assistance at any time.*
  • Unlimited access to a Collection Analysis Toolkit. This toolkit complements the collection development work you already have in place.
  • Unlimited access to a vetted collection of materials about children's & young adult books and authors.
  • Identifiable action steps. You will receive a custom Implementation Plan that outlines your collection development decisions and next steps.

“It is spectacular to partner with the State Library of Ohio on this initiative,” shares Nick Glass, the Founder and Head of TeachingBooks. “This empowering opportunity will enable library staff to pause, have tools and support at their disposal, and take a data-driven look at children’s and young adult collections in meaningful ways. We look forward to supporting libraries throughout all 88 counties, and being here to assist with your work.”

No Kid Hungry’s Center for Best Practices has created a space just for libraries. This new webpage houses information for libraries nationwide on the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP, or Summer Meals) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program (CACFP At-Risk, or Afterschool Meals). Learn more about each program and how libraries can share their strengths to increase access to healthy food in their communities. Planning and implementation resources are also available, along with training opportunities.

This new resource aligns with and links to the CSLP’s Libraries & Summer Food how-to guide, which is a thorough, clear step-by-step guide for libraries wishing to participate in or support summer meals.
Also, the State Library’s SFSP webpage provides a collection of state-specific links, instructions, and ideas.
