Children in Trauma Bibliography
https://libguides.govst.edu/childrenintraumabibliography

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) such as poverty, parental imprisonment, encounters with violence, or a family member’s death can negatively affect a child’s long term development and health. The Children in Trauma Bibliography is for teachers, parents, counselors, and others interacting with children that had ACEs. As statistics indicate, there is a need for assistance in the area of resources to help children cope with the impact of tragedy. Books are one means of helping children feel connected to others and experience another individual’s process of coping with a traumatic event.

The bibliography was created by Dr. Megan McCaffrey, assistant professor in the Division of Education at Governors State University. Categorized by theme, the bibliography includes children’s books that address domestic abuse and bullying; grief and loss; illness, anxiety, and depression; pandemics; poverty, homelessness, and hunger; and more.

A publisher permissions update as many libraries and schools pivot back to online programming for now. Please note that some publishers have extended their permissions for virtual storytimes, but others have not, so proceed with caution, especially with any recordings. Be sure to check each publisher’s website for specifics on the titles you are using in virtual programming.

Here are some resources, but please check each publisher’s website, as things are changing rapidly:  Thanks to Cathy Lancaster at the Library of Michigan for compiling this information.
