A Note from Stark County District Library

The Ohio Revised Code establishes a county law library resources board composed of five members in each county, which oversees the operation of the county’s law library. The libraries are charged with providing services to county government employees--including the courts, and municipal and township employees. Many of them, like the Stark County Law Library, also provide legal information to public users. Libraries in each county have the authority to set their own policies. The law libraries receive the majority of their funding from a portion of traffic ticket fines.

There is a Consortium of Ohio County Law Libraries that provides training and grants to the local county law libraries, and a couple of law libraries have used grant funds to form partnerships with public libraries. Some county law libraries also host book discussions and legal information programs in cooperation with public libraries. A county law library may be able to collaborate with your library to provide a new program!
