Join Kymberlee Powe, Children and YA Consultant for the Connecticut State Library Division of Library Development, as she dives into the makeup of the publishing industry. You will learn how to identify the difference between a diverse collection and an inclusive one, and walk through the logistics of performing a diversity audit of your collection. The examples and resources provided in this session will focus on youth collections; however, the methodology of performing a diversity audit, and the reasons to do so, are universal to all collections.

If you are unable to attend this session live, a recording will be made available.

This free presentation is brought to you by the Connecticut State Library, in collaboration with the Indiana State Library, the Library of Michigan, and the State Library of Ohio, so join us and exchange ideas with library staff from across our three states.

Reimaging School Readiness Training
Do you wonder what research really says about how to support school readiness?
This is a suite of research-backed resources created for library staff to help families prepare children ages birth to 8 years for success in school and in life.

Through a live and online interactive presentation with hands-on activities, this training will introduce library staff to the research, practical implications, and resources offered in the toolkit.

The workshop topics include:
  • key findings from current cognitive and developmental psychology research
  • the implications of those findings for library staff’s daily work
  • practical ready-to-implement ideas for activities
  • resources for staff training and for parents/caregivers

This training is for library staff who work with children from ages 0 to 8 and their families.

Registration and more information can be found the State Library of Ohio’s website.

The live and online workshop will be held.

The State Library of Ohio and OhioNET hosted Sustainable Thinking: What the World Needs Now on September 8.  The online event garnered a huge response with over 100 tuning in live!  A recording of the event is now available to view on the State Library of Ohio’s YouTube page

The program is in three parts. First, Rebekkah Smith Aldrich gives a presentation on sustainable thinking for libraries and discusses several frameworks to help with library programming, strategic planning, and community partnerships. In the second part of the program, Rebekkah engages in a dialog with librarian Erin Kelsey from the State Library of Ohio to dig deeper into the concept and themes of equity, climate change, and how to implement this in Ohio libraries of all types and sizes. Lastly, Rebekkah answers questions from the audience.

In an effort to create a supportive learning experience for participants, we have curated a resources webpage with helpful articles on sustainability in libraries.
