The National Summer Learning Association offers a new webinar:

Cultural Crossroads: Exploring the important intersection of summer program training & design with the critical need to address race, equity, and inclusion
Wednesday, April 28, 2:00 pm

Summer and extended learning programs play an important role in providing a safe space for student learning and exploration, especially for BIPOC students. This starts with a staff that is well-equipped with the social and emotional intelligence to support, lead and navigate this work. This webinar examines how organizations can best equip summer program staff with tools & training on race, equity and inclusion in order to meet student needs and maximize program impact this summer. Breakthrough Collaborative has assembled a Race Equity Diversity & Inclusion (REDI) Workgroup of program leaders, staff, former teaching fellows and instructional coaches to do just that.

The Ohio Inclusion State Leadership Team invites you to take a survey regarding the creation of a Family Engagement Resource Guide:
www.surveymonkey.com/r/T8JGHG3

The Ohio Inclusion State Leadership Team is a group of individuals who are family members with children who have disabilities and/or work for state agencies or organizations committed to strengthening the inclusion of children with disabilities wherever children learn, play, and live. One of the team’s objectives is to create a Family Engagement Resource Guide for families, caregivers, and professionals. This resource guide will offer reliable, relevant, and consistent materials on how to engage, build, and support relationships between families and professionals. The goal of the guide is to equip all adults with the information and resources needed to fully support each child's learning trajectory.

It would be great to see lots of library resources included in the Family Engagement Resource Guide. Please consider completing the brief, anonymous survey to share your favorite resources for engaging and supporting families.

Here’s an important update about the Ohio State Parks certificate for all your families who will have multiple people participating in your summer library program. The library certificate is ODNR’s very first discount program under a new reservation system for its overnight stay options including campgrounds and state operated cabins. One thing we have learned is the discount code can be used just once per customer per facility. Our State Parks partners want to share this info with you to pass along to your SLP participants if asked:

The Ohio State Parks certificate may be given to any summer library program participant of any age, one per person. Members of the same family can each receive a certificate that they earn through your reading program. If you are asked about using the certificate for camping: when redeeming, one certificate will be accepted from a customer per transaction and location. However, families with multiple certificates can use their additional certificate(s) at any of the other 57 campgrounds located around the state. As an example, if a family receives three certificates, they can use all three by camping at three different parks.

Download the State Parks certificate here:

Use the case-sensitive password StateParks2021 to access this page.

This incentive is for the exclusive use of Ohio public libraries. Do not share the password, link, or electronic file with anyone but Ohio public library staff. Do not repost online except on a secure staff intranet. Copy/print on green paper and include your library name. Keep track of how many certificates you distribute.
