NEO-RLS Announcements

NEO-RLS 2021 Statewide Salary Survey To Be Deployed in March

The NEO-RLS Statewide Salary Survey is a comprehensive compensation survey including salaries and benefits.  There is no fee to participate and we welcome all public, academic and special library participation.  The results of the Survey will be available in print and online beginning July 1, 2021.  The online feature will allow libraries to request customized reports depending upon their interest and need.  Any library may purchase the results and request customized reports.  However, participating libraries that are members of one of the 4 Ohio Regional Library Systems will be able to purchase the results and request customized reports at a heavily discounted cost.  We encourage everyone to participate in order to create a robust survey that is of use across our state.  Please contact Betsy Lantz if you have questions.

Please Note:  Due to the possible increase in the Federal minimum wage to $15/hour, the company we are working with has assured us that their system will easily enable them to recompute the data using the new minimum wage and produce an updated report quickly, if needed.

Single Story Bias
We are aware of the ways in which we can most effectively serve diverse clients, but we aren’t always aware of the ways in which our unconscious biases can interfere. This program explores the “Single Story” bias and how it can negatively impact our interactions with others, especially when the bias is operating outside of our awareness.  Single stories are single accounts or stereotypes that we hold about others, based on the social group we assume that they belong to.  This workshop will explore this concept through interactive activities and discussions.

Introduction to Coded Language
In this hour-long introduction to the concept of coded language, participants examine the definition, history, and implications of coded language (also called dog-whistles). Participants will increase their awareness around the coded language that many of us use in our daily lives, and gain practical skills around how to critically assess one’s own language, and respond when others use coded language.
