Description:
The incumbent reports to the Senior Technology Analyst. The incumbent is
responsible for developing and maintaining the communications and technology
infrastructure of NEO-RLS Regional Library System, providing contract based
consulting services to the NEO-RLS membership and working with the TSenior Technology Analyst to help develop the system s technology plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (90% of work time)*
- Assists in maintaining the local and wide area networks in operation at
NEO-RLS headquarters
- Provides consulting services to member libraries in the development and
implementation of local and wide area networks, web-based services and
library automation
- Performs off-site problem resolution via the telephone and/or using
remote desktop assistance applications and provides on-call support for NEO-RLS
and Member library computer/network systems
- Oversees the data integrity, security and backup of NEO-RLS and hosted
member libraries data and applications, including backup dispersion and
off-site storage
- Assists member libraries with remote and local access to commercial and
in house databases
- Assists in maintaining a high-level technical training program for
member library personnel
- Assists the Senior Technology Analyst in creating logical and innovative
solutions to complex problems for NEO-RLS and its member libraries
- Assists and/or oversees the planning, development, implantation,
testing, production and training of new technology products for NEO-RLS and
its member libraries
- Explores and proposes new directions in training and consulting
initiatives for membership
- Assists in NEO-RLS Vision video production and conferencing services
- Assists and/or oversees in the preparation of NEO-RLS and select member
library E-Rate forms
- Assists in the preparation of technology reports and communications with
member libraries, including the NEO-RLS newsletter
- Assists member libraries with the deployment and management of internet
content management
- Assists the Senior Technology Analyst in exploring the technical
development of NEO-RLS s online environment, inclusive of interactive web
site development. Performs ongoing webmaster duties on NEO-RLS s
internet/Intranet
- Develop and maintain the source code for the Trackker application,
survey gathering application and Intranet for the AfterDark portion of the
KnowItNow program
* Essential functions will require extensive driving within the
nine-county NEO-RLS region and throughout the state.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES (10% of work time)
- Keeps up to date with technical as well as library community
developments, and attends meetings in the NEO-RLS region and of various
professional associations appropriate to the position
- Research, evaluate and project future needs for hardware and software
solutions for NEO-RLS and its member Libraries
- Performs other related duties as deemed appropriate or necessary by the
Senior Technology Analyst

Qualifications: Qualifications include extensive experience with computers as demonstrated by one of the following: BS in Computer Science / related field or library science degree with considerable knowledge of information science or professional networking certification or equivalent experience.
Advanced technology certification such as MCSE, and/or CCNA is strongly desired
Must qualify to be bonded

Salary: Starting salary $30,000- negotiable with qualifications. |
Comments:
- Knowledge of standard library electronic services terminology and
ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical personnel.
- Ability to establish, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair local/wide area
networks on diverse operating systems., including real-world experience
administering large multi-user systems including DNS, Web, Security,
Internet Management, and Email with particular focus on IIS, Apache,
Exchange 5.5/2000/2003, BIND, Sendmail, Postfix, Mailman, Squid, Dovecot,
SquirrelMail, Websense, MS ISA Server, MSSQL, MySQL, Darwin Streaming
Server, and Norton enterprise security solutions.
- Knowledge of automated library systems environment
- Knowledge and comprehension of facility blue prints/wiring plans and
local/wide area network topologies
- Extensive knowledge and experience with TCP/IP networks, protocols,
security, design and troubleshooting, with a focus on, and experience with
deploying and maintaining Cisco routers, PIX Firewalls and switches.
- Ability to deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair issues and
advanced solutions on diverse operating systems including Windows
XP/NT/2000/2003, Apple OS 9 & X, FreeBSD, RedHat and Fedora Core
- Ability to deploy, maintains, troubleshoot, and repair issues and
advanced solutions on diverse hardware systems and environments
- Understanding and strong experience in programming and database
theory/methodology, web development, and maintenance, including familiarity
with HTML, JavaScript, Perl, Java, Cold Fusion, ASP, PHP, Visual Basic
- Experience with video conferencing solutions including Vtel and Polycom
systems, and experience with video capture and editing solutions including
applications from Apple and Microsoft
- Ability to work independently and with staff from member libraries.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral a must.
- Ability to keep up with technological changes and willingness to adjust
job duties accordingly.
- Judgment and discretion required due to access to confidential
information.
